VygonVet Supports Orang-utan Aid In Sumatra

14-06-2018

This month, VygonVet has sent further veterinary supplies to the Orang-utan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) charity in Sumatra, Indonesia, to help with the rehabilitation of rescued orang-utans. The equipment includes Lectro-Cath (extension line for arterial monitoring) and a minor ops kit providing the essential tools required for minor procedures. The charity was founded by vet Nigel Hicks and his wife Sara Fell Hicks when they recognised the need to provide veterinary equipment, medicines and practical veterinary mentoring to orang-utan rescue groups and rehabilitation centres in Indonesia and Malaysia. The charity further supports vets who work with orang-utans who have been rescued from illegal pet homes, human orang-utan conflict or the illegal wildlife trade. These vets and their teams are often working in difficult, demanding and dangerous conditions with minimal equipment. The aid that VygonVet has sent will help to support these vets with the care that they provide and will help in the eventual rehabilitation of the rescued orang-utans.
