Dog Lovers Pedal up 50km of Charity Cash

21-06-2017

Wiltshire dog-lovers Caroline Redmond and Lucy Sherry-Harte are turning pooches for the day to pedal up hundreds of pounds in a 50km charity cycle in aid of Hounds for Heroes. Caroline and Lucy will be donning fluffy dogs’ ears and tails when they take on the 50km ride on Sunday 4th May in aid of Hounds for Heroes - a charity that provides assistance dogs for disabled servicemen and women. Already the canine cyclists, who both work in the Commercial Department at Vygon (UK) Ltd in Swindon, have coined in more than £600 for the cause. More has also been pledged by friends and colleagues once they have completed the off-road mountain biking challenge They decided to get on their bikes for the charity after becoming dog owners themselves last year. Lucy is the proud owner of Border Terrier Poppy, while Caroline is ‘mum’ to lovely black Labrador KC. Lucy said: “I heard about Hounds for Heroes and thought what a good cause it was. With us both now being dog-owners ourselves I thought it would be a very fitting thing to do. We’ve not done a lot of training yet, but we’re really looking forward to it. I go to regular spin classes so I’m used to cycling, we’re just hoping it doesn’t rain!” Caroline, a keen water sports enthusiast, has recently joined the Sea Cadets with her son Michael. Caroline is really looking forward to the challenge of the bike ride as it will be a personal achievement. Caroline and Lucy will be cycling as part of the Sarsen Trail and Neolithic Marathon which starts at Avebury, ends at Stonehenge, and takes in the Salisbury Plain. Lucy added: “Caroline and I have done charity bike rides before, but this is quite a hard terrain. Our colleagues at Vygon have been very supportive and we’re hoping we can hit the £1,000 mark by the time we’ve finished.” Vygon’s charity committee will also make a donation based on the final figure raised.
