The Great New Taste for Tiny Friends with Big Personalities!
28-06-2015
Supreme Petfoods has had a major rebrand of its muesli food and Crunchers treats range. Tiny Friends Farm becomes the new beacon umbrella brand for the range and the new world for Russel Rabbit and his famous furry friends.
In pet stores, the small animal category is sometimes difficult for pet owners to find the products they want to buy because, unlike cat and dog, it is a category that is multi-species.
Claire Hamblion, Marketing Manager at Supreme says, “Research shows that shoppers find the small animal category confusing and difficult to navigate, even in the most successful retail stores. This problem is made even worse by brand owners not providing clear brand signalling, leaving the shopper confused and frustrated.
“That is why Supreme has created the new Tiny Friends Farm brand, to shorten the shopper journey and simplify brand choice for owners of small pets.”
She said that according to data from two of the largest pet wholesalers in the UK, the small animal food market is still dominated by mixes. The rebranded Tiny Friends Farm mix range has now also been reformulated to improve palatability and help reduce the risk of selective feeding.
Claire said: “Our new recipes for Russel Rabbit, Gerty Guinea Pig and our other muesli-style pet foods have been significantly improved to help ensure all the elements of the mix are equally tasty to pets. This means that the scope for selective feeding is considerably reduced.
“Supreme’s extrusion process is a different way of cooking the fibre, making it extremely palatable, with no added sugar. Our new recipes offer higher quality extrusions instead of the old-style pellets and stalk, which was sometimes left uneaten by pets – particularly rabbits. With the pellets replaced by higher quality extrusions, the fibre intake amongst pet herbivores should be increased, helping to promote healthy teeth and tummies, as well as providing even better value for pet owners”
The new packaging also encourages rabbit, guinea pig and chinchilla owners to feed more hay.
“We understand how important it is for small herbivores to eat a portion of hay that matches at least their own body size every day. In fact, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus should have access to unlimited fresh hay all the time. Feeding hay alongside a herbivore’s daily pet food ensures that small herbivores’ teeth and tummies stay healthy, as well as getting all the vitamins and minerals they need. However, all too often new pet owners are unaware of the importance of hay in their pets’ diets and it’s only right that pet food manufacturers should be doing their bit to help increase awareness of this essential welfare message”.
The rebranded and reformulated Tiny Friends Farm range includes Russel Rabbit, Gerty Guinea Pig, Harry Hamster, Charlie Chinchilla and Gerri Gerbil. Reggie Rat is now also suitable for mice and has had a new character introduced to the pack by the name of Mimi Mouse.
