PAUL GEOGHEHAN WINS BIG AT THE BSME AWARDS WITH SONGLINE

Tuesday, June 11, 2019 Paul Geoghegan, publisher of Songlines magazine, scooped the Best Innovation award at this year’s The British Society of Magazine Editors Talent Awards. Beating stiff competition from GQ, Easyjet Traveller, ELLE & Stylist, Geoghegan won the award for his David Attenborough campaign, releasing an album of field recordings made by Attenborough over 50 years which generated exclusive editorial content for Songlines as well as phenomenal press coverage. The awards were presented to a packed-out Omeara in London by Alice Levine and BSME Chair, Alex Mead. After receiving the award Geoghegan said “it was a dream come true to have the opportunity to work with Sir David on this project, and to continue to do so with our Remix Competition, and to be acknowledged by the BSME with a Talent Award is the icing on the cake” Following the release of the album, David Attenborough: My Field Recordings from Across the Planet, Songlines, in partnership with PRS Foundation, launched a competition available to UK music creators, to submit a remix of the ‘Gender Wayang’ track from the album. Submissions closed on June 10 and our distinguished panel made up of Sir David Attenborough, Cerys Matthews, Ghostpoet, Matthew Herbert, Hannah Peel & Gilles Peterson are currently whittling down the entries to a shortlist of six which will be voted on by the public between July 19 – September 15. The winner will be presented and perform their remix at this year’s Songlines Music Awards Ceremony at EartH in London on November 30.
