08.10.2015 Following the topic of our blog on Monday Provet Cloud sponsored a seminar on Practice Management at University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno 2nd October 2015. The full day seminar included sessions Veterinary Practice Management – what do we speak about? Janne Huttunen Towards Progressive Veterinary Services, Marja-Leena Nurmela Trends in Veterinary Practice Management, Stanislav Jas Managing a Veterinary Clinic in Finland, Veikko Tuovinen, Tuhatjalka Benefits of efficient Practice Management Solutions, Janne Huttunen Response from the audience was very positive with feedback such as: Time well spent! Lots of new ideas! It was very inspiring and interesting! Our aim with the seminar was to demonstrate that practice management software may be used for much more than just filing patient data and give some practical tips how to manage practice with information and knowledge. According to the recent study published in Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association veterinary practices are missing opportunities in improving health care with too narrow use of practice management solutions – majority of users used it for activities such as scheduling appointments and recording medical information concluding to billing, however less than 50 % uses practice management systems for connecting to other systems like diagnostic imaging, laboratory equipment or even accommodating discharge notes and instructions. Few used the system for preventive care or development of procedures and practices in use. With greater use of advanced functionality medical care and patient safety could be improved. Improved quality and efficiency often leads to increased client satisfaction and positive business results. In a single-vet small animal practice these thoughts may sometimes be quite far away from everyday work, however using information in new ways benefit also small size practitioners: taking couple of extra clients a day due to lean handling of procedures, saving euros while documenting items used in the treatments and using the time more effectively by reducing recurring work in typing same things again and again. Every patient is different, it is clear, however it does not mean one would not be able to rationalize things –do the right things. Transparency in billing and equal quality for all your clients will create happy clients and trust which will bring them back again. With the seminar in Brno we wanted to share experience and knowledge we gathered from Veterinary business in Finland. Today’s world is all about networking – digitally and personally. Know the market, your competitors and clients in addition to the knowledge on veterinary medicine. Through a dialog with other players on the market you learn new things and get new ideas for developing your practice and your knowledge. One of the benefits of utilizing knowledge is growth in innovation. Often the most amazing innovation come when knowledge from different fields is combined – look at for example this dog pee pole we saw at the university yard. The needs of urban dog and city sanitary department are combined in a nicely designed and simple solution. Wow!
