Preventing Heat Stroke in Dogs

31-10-2022

With the Summer now well and truly here it is important to keep in mind when it is just too hot to walk your dog. You may think it is often not hot enough in the UK to worry about heat stroke in dogs but every year vets treat hundreds of cases. Often it is because owners will walk their pets during the hottest part of the day and this can sometimes be as early as 10am in the UK. Most heat related are preventable but it is so important to know when it is dangerous to take your dog out. You should always look at the temperature and don’t forget to do the 5 second foot test to make sure your dogs don’t burn their paws. Take your shoes off and stand on the pavement – if too hot for you it is definitely too hot for them. We’ve created a heat stroke guide below to give you a quick overview of when to take care and exercise during the cooler parts of the day.
