Cyclooxygenase-2 is necessary for prostaglandins, that is required in a several physiological processes. Prostaglandin G/H Synthase 2 (PGHS2) is another name for it and because it is membrane-bound, it can only operate on molecules that are close to its active site. COX2 is essential for tissue healing, pain perception and inflammation.
