Metanephrine and normetanephrine both contain a common structure of a methylated catechol ring (3-methoxy 4-hydroxy phenyl) in conjunction with an ethylamine group. Both are O-methylated metabolites of the catecholamines epinephrine (E) and norepinephrine (NE) respectively.
