Irisin is made up of a fibronectin III (FNIII)-like region at the N-terminus and a flexible C-terminus. The FNIII-like domain creates a continuous inter subunit -sheet dimer, which has never been seen before in any FNIII protein. It controls bone remodelling and metabolism in both animal models and people.
