Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a genital herpes, blood tests are carried out to diagnose infections, antibodies are identified against HSV-1 and HSV-2. However, the "gold standard" for diagnosis of HSV infection remains to be isolation of the virus from tissue culture.
