Furin is a cellular endoprotease belonging to the proprotein convertase family that is involved in processing and activating precursor proteins and peptides. Localized in the Golgi apparatus and cell surface, it cleaves target proteins at consensus cleavage sites with paired basic amino acids to induce conformational changes unveiling functional domains.
